Household Items: If you’ve rented a VRBO or AirBNB, you may already have most of these items at your new place. 

  • Dishes and glassware
  • Flatware and knives
  • Pots and pans
  • Bakeware (cookie sheets, cake pans, etc.)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Coffee maker
  • Coffee mugs
  • Cutting board
  • Sheets, blankets, pillows
  • Towels
  • Shower curtain
  • Laundry basket
  • Trash basket
  • Clothing hangers
  • Flashlight
  • Wine glasses and corkscrew
  • Curtain rod and curtains
  • Microwave*
  • Mixing bowls
  • Pizza cutter
  • TV*
  • DVD player
  • Storage totes
  • Small fireproof/waterproof safe for valuables and important documents
  • Picture frames with photos of family, friends and pets

*Larger items can often be rented from a local place or purchased from a pawn shop, then resold at the end. 

Cleaning Items: Remember that these things are typically inexpensive and can easily be bought at a local store, saving you room in your car. 

  • Mop and pail
  • Broom and dustpan
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Small vacuum

Personal Items: These may be the most important items on the entire list! 

  • Electronic chargers
  • Hairdryer
  • Alarm clock
  • Laptop or tablet
  • Driver’s license
  • Social Security card
  • Copy of birth certificate
  • Copy of nursing credentials and licensing
  • First day instructions
  • The right color scrubs for your new assignment
