6 Reasons You Should Take Your Fall Assignment in Wisconsin

Excited woman

Football season has officially started, almost everything is pumpkin-flavored, and school is back in full swing. All of this means only one thing – fall is here! As you’re starting to get ready to finish up your summer travel assignment, consider Wisconsin (a compact state) as one of your top choices for this fall. Check out 6 of our top reasons to head north this autumn!

  1. Peak Autumn Colors. Grab your car keys and a hot thermos of apple cider because there are literally hundreds of gorgeous “Rustic Roads” to experience in Wisconsin. Check out the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Rustic Roads program for a downloadable guide.
  2. Tailgating Parties. You don’t have to be a “cheesehead” to enjoy the tailgating! Between the Green Bay Packers (NFL) and UW-Madison’s Badger football team, there will be no shortage of parties complete with beer, brats, and chili cook-offs.
  3. Apple Orchards and Fall Festivals. Check out Bayfield’s annual Apple Fest, hailed as one of the “10 Best Fall Harvest Festivals in the Nation” by USA Today. Miles of fresh apple pies, tarts, caramel apples, ciders and other delicious fall treats will make your Apple Fest experience one to remember. If you miss this festival, Wisconsin is home to dozens of other amazing (and delicious) fall festivals.
  4. Wine Tastings. Wisconsin’s regions are very similar to the cool air and dry growing seasons of northern California or even parts of France, leading to an abundance of wineries and vineyards in the area. Travel Wisconsin offers a directory of wineries on their website.
  5. Indoor Water Parks. The temps may be cooling down, but that doesn’t mean you have to put your swimsuit away! The Wisconsin Dells is known as the waterpark capital of the world, complete with insane indoor waterparks that stay in the perfect temps for hitting the pool.
  6. Halloween in Madison. Put your best costume on and head to State Street for Halloween, where a kid-friendly block party by days turns into a raging party at night. The annual Freakfest starts on Saturday, October 28th and features an incredible lineup of musicians and DJs that will perform on three different stages for over six hours of live entertainment.
